We recently spent a Saturday with our friends from the Chickasha Area Arts Council helping their board be more efficient and effective. The all volunteer board works to promote the arts in Grady county. The arts council manages the Rock Island Arts Festival, Artscope summer arts camp for children and several public art projects (below).
Our non-profit expert Cher Golding created a robust board training program that our resident art supporter (and artist) Kyle Golding presented to the group.
The Chickasha Area Arts Council exist to provide the citizens and businesses of Chickasha and surrounding communities will realize the economic, social and cultural impact of the arts on the community. The Children in our schools will be enriched by programs sponsored by the arts council. Tourists, visitors, and potential businesses will look favorably on Chickasha as an arts hub for the Grady County area.
Like any good organization, the board took a few hours out of their regular schedules to examine their programs, set future goals and adopt new rules for more efficient meetings. We had a great time talking with this great group of arts advocates and helping them see that their “big dreams” are actually within their reach with a little planning, hard work and collaboration.
